- The country has 28 of the 32 climate types
- Three forms of landscapes: the coast (la costa), the rainforest (la selva) and the Andes (la sierra)
- The development in the mountains is a problem. the high society prevails, the gap between rich and poor is very large
- more than 100,000 archaeological sites. One of them is Machu Picchu, one of the Seven Wonders of the world.

Cusco:
- Often spelled Cuzco
- South east of the country
- 116.22 km²
- Cusco in Peru was the most important city in the whole of the Inca Empire
- San Jeronimo and Wanchaq are districts of Cusco. My internship will take place there.
Abancay:

- Located in the Andes region, close to Cusco
- A lot of indigenous people live here
- Agriculture is still very importent
- Abancay is the capital of Apurímac and the Abancay Province
